At the helm of electrification in the maritime sector
2022 was truly an exciting year for Liquid Wind with several important milestones. During the year, our first electrofuel facility project FlagshipONE in Örnsköldsvik reached the Final Investment Decision (FID) and was sold to Ørsted. Furthermore, we partnered with two new site hosts for establishing our second and third facility: one with Sundsvall Energi and one with Umeå Energi, two power utilities located in north-eastern Sweden. With a planned production capacity of 100,000 tons of fossil-free electrofuel per year, the two facilities will have twice the capacity compared to FlagshipONE.
The increasing efforts to tackle shipping emissions
Liquid Wind releases White Paper on the economic implications of e-fuel Well-to-Wake emissions compared to alternatives. The development is moving rapidly in the eMethanol and e-fuel space. In the white paper we dig into these increased efforts and show why eMethanol is the best alternative to fossil fuels.
Liquid Wind submits environmental permit application for large-scale production of green electrofuel in Sundsvall
Liquid Wind is applying for an environmental permit for FlagshipTWO at the Land and Environment Court in Östersund. The permit is for Liquid Wind’s second commercial-scale green electrofuel facility, in Sundsvall north-east of Sweden. Once operational, FlagshipTWO will contribute to a 283,000 ton reduction of CO2 emissions annually. The construction is planned to start in 2024 and the facility will be operational in the beginning of 2026.
Joint statement for an ambitious FuelEU Maritime Regulation
Liquid Wind is one of 47 signatories of the Joint statement for an ambitious FuelEU Maritime Regulation. In order to significantly accelerate the defossilisation of European shipping, various players from the shipping industry and along the eFuel value chain are in favour of a binding sub-quota for renewable fuels of non-biogenic origin (RFNBOs). Investment and planning security are the focus for all sectors involved in order to trigger the market ramp-up.
Liquid Wind partners with Umeå Energi for the establishment of an electrofuel facility in Umeå
A feasibility study carried out by Liquid Wind in partnership with Umeå Energi confirms that there are excellent conditions for establishing Sweden’s third electrofuel facility for the maritime sector at the Dåva cogeneration plant in Umeå. A partnership between Liquid Wind and Umeå Energi is now launched to make the facility a reality.
