Haldor Topsoe provides proven technology to produce electrified methanol at scale

A world-leader in catalyst and methanol production technology, Haldor Topsoe will contribute their energy-efficient and industry-proven eMethanol technology, and end-to-end process design and engineering to support Liquid Wind. Topsoe joined Liquid Wind as the first strategic investor during the SEED round in February 2020.

Liquid Wind facilities will integrate Haldor Topsoe’s leading eMethanol solution. Concentrated biogenic CO₂ and hydrogen will be mixed and compressed to produce renewable methanol.  Topsoe’s expertise within both process technology and catalysts will ensure high efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

The Liquid Wind consortium are working closely together to optimise the process and produce cost-competitive carbon neutral fuels to enable the sustainable energy transition.

“The world needs to reduce CO₂ emissions and eMethanol can help to achieve that. It makes us proud to be part of this consortium that brings together very capable players in the field. We look forward to bringing our tried and tested methanol technology into this innovative context” said Tore Sylvester Jeppesen, Senior Vice President, Haldor Topsoe.

“Haldor Topsoe are known for their dedication to innovation, sustainability and achieving optimal performance, we are proud to have them as a valuable member of our consortium. Their highly efficient technology and expertise will help to deliver cost-competitive eMethanol to replace fossil fuel” said Claes Fredriksson, CEO & Founder, Liquid Wind.

The Consortium are now planning the technology integration for the first facility in Sweden and expect to be supplying eMethanol from early 2024.
